Hello, my name is Drew Coleman and I am a programmer from the UK who currently works as a game developer at Red Kite Games.
I grew up in England in a small town in the North West which was best known for having a name no one could pronounce, and for being the custodian of the largest pear drop in the world.
In a town where the most interesting thing you could do was to go and stare at a large pear drop that you weren’t even allowed to lick, I found myself occupying my time with video games.
One day I was told I had to stop playing games and make a decision about what I wanted to do with my life, and since, at that time making money from playing games wasn’t a thing, I did the next best thing which was to try and make them.
I studied for an undergraduate degree in Computing and realised that I still didn’t know how to make games so went on to study for a Masters in Games Programming.
After I graduated I spent 2 years working as a Unity developer making games and other types of experiences in VR and AR, before finally landing my dream job making games.
I have been at Red Kite Games for 3+ years and have been fortunate to work on some amazing titles that you might have heard of such as Two Point Hospital, Fall Guys and Hogwarts Legacy.
Despite my qualifications and experience I still find myself coming to the realisation that I know a lot less about computers, programming and game development than I would like to admit. As such I spend as much time as I can learning new things and sharing what I learn on this blog.
When I am not working or blogging you’ll find me, or rather won't find me, as I am hunkered indoors lost in some other reality conjured up in a video game. Every now and again though I do venture outside and spend my time travelling the world with my wife as we try to scratch off as many places as we can from the map of the world we have hanging from the wall in the kitchen.
If you are interested in talking about programming, or game development or want to find out the name of the town I grew up in feel free to reach out to me on Twitter @drew_coleman92
